Kota Malang—Laboratorium Riset Bahasa Isyarat Universitas Indonesia (LRBI UI/Sign Language Research Laboratory) visits The Center for Disability Studies and Services Universitas Brawijaya (PSLD UB) on Monday, August 27, 2018. The visit is conducted on the 3rd Floor of Gedung Layanan Bersama UB.

Chairman of PSLD UB, Fadillah Putra, Ph.D. guests the UI’s academicians. In his remarks he sent his gratitude for the sharing experiences on this occasion.

“We do also have to learn from you at LRBI UI. Therefore, the spread of knowledge and experiences can be learned from each other to practice,” he adds.

On the next occasion, Dr. F.X. Rahyono, S.S., M.Hum. as a representative of LRBI UI and also the Chairman of the Linguistic Department at the Faculty of Cultural Studies UI gives their gratitude. He says that so far there had been a lot of important research and experience needed also to be improved.

“So, to PSLD UB, we have thought PSLD has become an institution which initiated and started inclusive education in higher education,” said Rahyono.

Focus on Specialization

Silva Tenrisara Isma from LRBI UI conveys the experiences she and friends have met. Translated into sign language by Adhika Irlang Suwiryo, Silva gives a detailed explanation of sign language studies which UI has been working on. Both were sign language translators at Jakarta Governor Candidate Debate last year.

“This variant of a very diverse sign language gives us all an explanation of its uniqueness,” Silva says. In the same place, one of the participants will also provide a very useful information sharing service, either PSLD or LRBI.

In addition to interactive dialogue with the boards of PSLD UB, represented by Unita Werdi Rahajeng and Alies Poetri Lintangsari, academicians of LRBI UI also visit Rumah Layanan Disabilitas UB. There they meet Deaf students directly and sign each other.

Before going to the next agenda, the Deaf students in UB involve in informal dialogues and support each other.
